BLM leader backs Trump; Biden losing support from Black voters.
President Joe Biden is facing a major challenge in his bid for re-election: he is losing the support of Black voters. Mark Fisher, co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Rhode Island chapter, recently joined Fox & Friends to make his announcement of support for former President Donald Trump. During the interview, he accused Democratic leaders of issuing racist policies that targeted the Black community and of thinking Black people are “stupid.”

Fisher has been vocal about his support for Trump in the past. In an interview with The Kim Iversen Show in early November 2023, he argued that Democrats don’t “value” the Black vote, and highlighted Trump’s advocacy for “uplifting the community.” He said that, while he believes the Democratic Party is racist, Donald Trump is the exact opposite. “Trump has done more for the Black community than I can any president I can think of in my lifetime,” Fisher said.

Joe Biden’s numbers are dropping in the polls. In early November, he took the lead in four of six swing states, but support dropped in only two. Meanwhile, Trump is gaining traction with eight percent in Arizona and five in Michigan.

Gary Dantzler, the founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island, was disgusted with Fisher’s comments and said they are a major setback for everything the organization stands for. However, Joe Powers, chairman of the Republican Party of Rhode Island, believes Fisher’s sentiments are a “major win.” He said it’s “refreshing” to see people who normally wouldn’t go the Republican route realizing it’s the smart move.
