TikTok is celebrating the power of literacy and the incredible work of Black women authors. The video-hosting platform recently announced the launch of its inaugural TikTok Book Awards for the UK and Ireland, showcasing the incredible #BookTok hashtag community. TikTok states that the awards are all about recognizing the books, independent bookshops, authors, and creators that make this community so unique.

Several incredible Black women authors have been nominated for their work and influence. Winners will be announced in August! Bolu Babalola, a UK-based author, is among the shortlisted authors for BookTok Book of the Year with her novel Honey & Spice. Jessica George, a British-Ghanaian writer, is also up for the same award and has already been recognized as a New York Times best-selling author. Malorie Blackman has been nominated for Best Book I Wish I Could Read Again For The First Time for her novel Noughts and Crosses. British-Nigerian writer Oyinkan Braithwaite is also up for nomination with her debut novel My Sister, The Serial Killer, in the Best Book To End A Reading Slump category.

Finally, two content creators, Eden (@edenvictorria) and Kemi & Busayo (@compulsivebookbuyers) have been nominated for BookTok Creator Of The Year. These two are well-known for their reading content on their TikTok page.

Readers are encouraged to cast their votes for their favorite literary works and creators. To make it even easier to get your hands on those books, you can find them on the TikTok Shop via bookshop.org. Let's celebrate the incredible Black women authors that are pushing the boundaries of literature and making this community so special.
