Black woman inspired by Warren Buffett to create a million-dollar business.
Lola Banjo, the founder of the million-dollar fashion brand Silver & Riley, had a goal to become CEO of BMW before she met Warren Buffet who changed her life. Banjo was part of a competition for students from Emory University and other schools to visit Omaha to learn more about Buffet and his company. At the time, Banjo was studying for her Master in Business Administration degree at Emory.

That is until Buffet encouraged Banjo to think bigger. Banjo recalled to Markets Insider that he said, “Instead of just aspiring to be CFO of BMW, from the little I know about you, why not aspire to own BMW?” This was a monumental moment for Banjo and it inspired her to create a global enterprise. She described herself as the personification of the mind-blown emoji and said that before meeting Buffet she had never imagined anything like this was possible.

Before running her business full-time, Banjo was vice president at Salesforce and a strategy consultant at Accenture and Deloitte. She quit her job at Salesforce to run Silver & Riley in November 2023. With Buffet as a mentor, she has been able to take her business to the next level and make her dream a reality. Banjo serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs who are looking to make their mark on the world.
