Jewelry retailer Zales is proud to announce they will be presenting two academic scholarships to students from universities represented in the upcoming Black College Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. According to Sports Illustrated, two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students from Morehouse College and Virginia Union University. The recipients were selected in collaboration with the schools based on their academic achievement and interest in a retail or entrepreneurial-focused field of study.

Kecia Caffie, president of Zales, expressed her excitement to Sports Illustrated. “We’re thrilled to partner with the BCFHOF again. This is a chance to celebrate the great athletes and coaches involved in the Hall of Fame Classic, recognize the hard-working students who have earned these academic scholarships, and meet potential future team members. The Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic game is a time-honored tradition, and we’re proud to present those playing in the game with this distinct pendant to remember this special moment in their college experience.”

The BCFHOF was founded in 2009 by former Grambling State University football players Doug Williams and James Harris. Harris became the NFL’s first full-time starting Black quarterback in 1969 and Williams was the first Black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl in 1988. The two also established the Shack Harris and Doug Williams Foundation, which annually presents the Black College Football Hall of Fame Game.

Since the inception of the Black College Football Hall of Fame, over 100 inductees have been honored, with Mel Blount, Willie Lanier, and Art Shell, all serving as trustees. The fourth annual Black College Football Hall of Fame game will take place on September 3. Zales is proud to be part of this prestigious event, and wishes the best of luck to all the athletes involved.
