Bangladeshi national escapes deportation by fleeing police station via bathroom window in Mumbai.
A Bangladeshi national, Anwar Shaikh, was placed at the Kalachowki police station as per the court's restriction order. However, he managed to escape the police's watchful eye by jumping out of the bathroom window.

Shaikh, who was 29 when arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad of the Kalachowki police unit in 2022, was sentenced to 10 months of judicial custody and a fine of ₹500 by the Esplanade Court. After completion of his sentence, the court had ordered his deportation back to Bangladesh.

On November 1, Shaikh was handed over to the Kalachowki's ATS unit. Vishal Bharaskar, a constable placed at the ATS, recalled that he was keeping watch outside the bathroom as per protocol when Shaikh requested to shower and wash a pile of clothes. After stepping away for a moment to make a quick call, Bharaskar realized that Shaikh had escaped.

Bharaskar informed the police van and alerted all patrolling squads. Extensive searches were conducted in Kalachowki police station vicinity, Cotton Green, Sewri railway stations, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, but Shaikh was nowhere to be found. In order to trace and nab Shaikh, a special team has been formed.
