The Baltimore Association of Black Journalists (BABJ) is hosting an exciting event for aspiring journalists and media personalities. On November 10th, the BABJ will be at Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism and Communication from 9am to 6pm for a multimedia boot camp.

This one-day event is open to all college students in the area and will feature three 90-minute workshops, a panel discussion, and a hands-on experience. The first workshop will focus on photography and videography, teaching students how to use digital cameras and smartphones for photography, and the essentials of creating a news package, and shooting videos from various angles.

The second workshop will help students learn how to identify news and utilize social media to gather reliable information. It will also instruct participants on how to use social media for audience outreach. The final workshop will give participants an opportunity to showcase their personality on the small screen, learning the best practices to have on-air presence and how to build a demo reel for applications.

The panel discussion, “Stay Ready, So You Don’t Have to Get Ready,” will feature some of local journalism’s greatest voices, such as WJZ Executive Producer Nicole Webb-McKnight. Emmy-award winning reporter Stephon Dingle will moderate the discussion.

This is a great opportunity for students to learn the fundamentals of journalism and media, and how to differentiate between what’s real and not. It is also a great chance to meet and interact with some of the most prominent figures in the journalism field. Students can register for the event here.
