According to the official, on November 4, 2023, a person from Bhubaneswar was lured by a Cyber Crime syndicate to invest in online trading. Over the course of 20 days, the victim was deceived and lost around Rs 60 lakh to the fraudsters. The victim then reported the incident to the crime branch on November 26, 2023.

Upon investigation, the crime branch found that the fraudsters were based in Gujarat. The team immediately travelled to Ahmedabad and with the assistance of the Crime Branch of Gujarat Police, apprehended the culprits from Fatewadi. The accused were presented before the court of SDJM, Bhubaneswar on May 1. The court granted the crime branch team's request for a three-day police remand for further investigation.
