Martin Odegaard has been an integral part of Arsenal's recent success and the club are now aiming to reward him with a new long-term contract. Mikel Arteta is keen to secure Odegaard's services for the long-term, similar to the way they did for Aaron Ramsdale, William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the club are 'planning to continue talks over a new long term deal' and negotiations are ongoing. Martin Odegaard first joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021, before making the move permanent the following summer for a fee of around £30million.
Since then, Odegaard has taken on the role of captain for both Arsenal and the Norway national team. He has grown into one of the club's most important players both on and off the pitch and managed to lead Arsenal to their first piece of silverware in a while. Last season, he very nearly captained the Gunners to the Premier League title.
So far, Odegaard has scored 26 goals and made 15 assists in 110 games for Arsenal and should be in action next Sunday when they travel to Everton. Before then, he'll be captaining his nation on Tuesday when Norway host Georgia in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier.
