Ahmedabad: In the midst of the devastating fire incident at a game zone in Rajkot last week that claimed the lives of 27 people, the Gujarat police have made another arrest. According to an official statement on Tuesday, one of the partners of the TRP game zone, Dhaval Thakkar, was apprehended from Abu Road in Rajasthan by the Banaskantha Superintendent of Police, Akshayraj Makwana.
It has been reported that Thakkar was the proprietor of Dhaval Corporation, which operated the game zone alongside five other partners from Raceway Enterprises. This brings the total number of arrests in connection with the fire incident to four.
Makwana further stated that a joint operation was carried out by the Rajkot and Banaskantha police to arrest Thakkar, who was taken into custody last night. The other three individuals who were arrested earlier are Yuvrajsinh Solanki, Rahul Rathod, and Nitin Jain, who was the manager of the game zone. They were all sent to 14-day police custody by a court in Rajkot on Monday.
In light of the tragedy, an FIR has been registered against six individuals, including Thakkar, Solanki, Rathod, and the partners of Raceway Enterprises - Ashoksinh Jadeja, Kiritsinh Jadeja, and Prakashchand Hiran. They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 304, 308, 337, 338, and 114.
The state government has also taken action by forming a Special Investigation Team to look into the incident and has announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of each deceased person. The central government has also stepped in by providing an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person.
