Somwarpet, Jul. 15: As per the instructions of the government and the court, some local areas have been identified as deemed forest areas, and the forest department should respond and conduct a survey along with the farmers and common people living on the edge of the forest, the Taluk Development Struggle Committee has submitted a request to the Forest Department.
Under the leadership of the committee president Arun Kothnalli, this related request was submitted to the Assistant Conservator of Forests of Somwarpet Gopal and it was urged to take action so that the local farmers do not face any problem during the survey.
Speaking on the occasion, Arun Kothnalli said that the rural areas under the jurisdiction of Somwarpet taluk fall under the jurisdiction of the Western Ghats region and are inhabited locally by farmer families. As per the instructions of the government and the courts, some areas have been identified as deemed forest.
In order to identify and notify those places, a survey is being conducted jointly by the Forest and Revenue Departments, and the locals have objected to the survey being conducted without informing the people's representatives or the locals while the department is conducting the survey. He said that the survey should be conducted in the presence of the common people living locally and a report should be submitted to the government and the court.
Since some areas of Kodagu district have not been surveyed for hundreds of years and the boundaries of the villages have not been marked, the maps of some lands in the village maps are different. He drew attention to the fact that the same survey numbers of some villages have been included in the designated forest area, Section 4, as an alternative to the Harangi submergence area.
The lands of some people have been shown in the village map with PT sheets. Since the lands that have been granted to some people have not been repaired and the right certificates are pending for those who have built houses and lived there and have been cultivating them, the survey work and notifications they are conducting should not cause any trouble to anyone. Farmers are living in the forest and protecting the forest, and they requested the Forest Department to respond urgently to the losses caused by animals and birds and provide compensation to the department and the government.
Speaking after receiving the request, Assistant Conservator of Forests Gopal said that as per the government order, a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Tahsildar, including the Revenue Department and the Forest Department, and a meeting is being held. He said that this request will be discussed in the next meeting and a report will be submitted to the government.
Other committee members met the Tahsildar and ADLR and brought the problem to the attention of the officials.
On this occasion, the committee vice-chairman K.N. Deepak, secretary Adarsh Thamaya, office bearers Trishul, C.K. Shivakumar, Srinidhi, Bhavin, Udaya and other committee members were present.
