The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) recently announced the appointment of Andre Iguodala as their Acting Executive Director. Iguodala, a recently retired former Golden State Warrior, will replace the outgoing executive director Tamika Tremaglio, who took over for Michele Roberts in January 2021.
Iguodala expressed his enthusiasm for taking on this role in a written statement, saying, “I am honored to serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA. I have learned a lot throughout my 19-year career as a player and I am looking forward to applying that knowledge to create an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players. I am thrilled to work with the Executive Committee and lead the brotherhood through its next stage of advancement and development.”
Iguodala is a four-time NBA champion who has earned his titles with the Warriors and won the Finals MVP trophy in 2015. He has also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Miami Heat during his NBA career.
In addition to his new role at the NBPA, Iguodala has recently joined forces with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Marc Lasry’s Avenue Sports Fund to become owners of TGL San Francisco, a tech-inspired golf league started by Tiger Woods’ TMRW Sports and the PGA Tour.
In October, Iguodala and his venture capital firm Mosaic General Partnership announced the successful raise of a $200 million fund. The fund will focus on providing early-stage funding for enterprise software, fintech, and sports companies. Some of their past portfolio companies include Allbirds, Hims, Coinbase, and Carta, all of which have achieved significant success.
