Alfonso Ribeiro reflects on his iconic role in
In a recent interview with Closer Weekly, Alfonso Ribeiro reflected on his impressive 40-year career in the entertainment industry. The talented actor and host opened up about the highs and lows that came with his breakout role as Carlton Banks on the beloved sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

While Ribeiro gained widespread recognition and became a household name thanks to his portrayal of the lovable Carlton and his iconic "Carlton dance," he reveals that the role also came with its fair share of sacrifices. "Playing Carlton on Fresh Prince became a sacrifice," he shared. "I used to always say doing Carlton was the greatest and worst thing that ever happened to me. It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play, but it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn't see me as anything else. The sacrifice was not having an acting career anymore."

Ribeiro spent six successful seasons on "Fresh Prince," which aired from 1990 to 1996. While he did appear in a couple of films during the show's run, he struggled to find consistent work in television after the show ended. It wasn't until his role as Dr. Maxwell Stanton on "In The House" that he found a new steady gig.

Since then, Ribeiro has continued to make a name for himself as a television host on shows like "Dancing with the Stars," "America's Funniest Home Videos," and "Jack Hanna's Passport" on ABC. He even took home the mirrorball trophy on Season 19 of "DWTS" in 2014. Despite his success in the hosting world, Ribeiro remains open to returning to acting if the right opportunity comes along. "I'm enjoying being a host and am very happy with it. But, yes, I would go back to acting if it was exactly the right thing," he shared.

When asked about his big break in the industry, Ribeiro credits his Broadway debut in "The Tap Dance Kid" as the moment that truly launched his career. "Clearly, The Tap Dance Kid. Playing the title character in a Broadway show was a big deal," he explained. "Then I got a second big break when I did the Pepsi commercial with Michael Jackson in 1984. That really broke me out of the New York area and gave me some worldwide notoriety."

It's clear that Ribeiro has had an impressive and diverse career in the entertainment industry, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. And while he may have had to make some sacrifices along the way, it's clear that his talent and hard work have paid off in the end.
