Bhopal is facing a deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI) for the first time as it marks the National Pollution Control Day 2023. Following the Diwali celebrations, the pollution control board officials have been on the ground trying to bring the AQI levels back to moderate category. The AQI has crossed the 300 mark in certain areas, which is attributed to the ongoing major projects - the Metro and Kolar six-lane construction.
Jainendra Chandel, from the MP Pollution Control Board, expressed his confidence that the AQI would come back to normalcy with the implemented measures. He spoke of how Bhopal maintains a better air quality compared to other major cities. When it comes to water pollution, the Lower Lake faces some pollution, however there are efforts underway to make it pollution-free. Moreover, the Narmada water, supplied to Old Bhopal and sourced from Kolar Dam, is still suitable for drinking.
The AQI levels for the city on Friday were recorded as moderate. The Paryavaran Parisar area had an AQI of 112, the Collectorate at 155, and TT Nagar at 143. With the pollution control board officials doing their best to bring the AQI back to moderate, let's hope that Bhopal will see an improvement in its air quality soon.
