Bhubaneswar, a bustling city in the state of Odisha, has recently taken a proactive step in response to the sweltering heat wave conditions prevailing in the region. The prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has established a dedicated heat stroke unit to cater to the growing number of heat-related illnesses.
Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, highlighted the urgent need for such a unit in light of the intense heat wave conditions in the state. With necessary medical facilities and a team of doctors from various departments, this unit aims to provide prompt and effective treatment to individuals suffering from sunstroke.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, Biswas urged the public to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible and to take precautionary measures like carrying an umbrella, a wet towel, and a water bottle when venturing outdoors. The newly established Heat Stroke Unit, located within the Ayush department, is equipped with six beds and has been operational since last week. In just a short span of time, the unit has already treated over fifteen patients, as reported by Medical Superintendent Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida.
In an effort to ensure efficient management of heat stroke cases, an emergency meeting was held with the heads of the General Medicine, Trauma & Emergency, and Ayush departments. The team discussed strategies to handle the increasing number of heat-related illnesses and to provide timely and effective care to those in need.
To oversee the operations of the Heat Stroke Unit, Assistant Professor of General Medicine, Dr. Srikanta Behera, has been appointed as the nodal officer. The unit has maintained an adequate stock of medicines and Oral Rehydration Solution, and the medical staff remains vigilant to respond to any emergencies.
This proactive step taken by AIIMS Bhubaneswar serves as a reminder for all individuals to be cautious and take necessary precautions during the scorching heat wave conditions. The dedicated heat stroke unit is a testament to AIIMS' commitment to providing the best medical care to the people of Bhubaneswar.
