Kolkata: On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate issued a new summons to the well-known actress Rituparna Sengupta for her involvement in the ration distribution scam in West Bengal. The actress has been asked to appear at the ED's office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, on the outskirts of Kolkata, next week. She was originally supposed to appear for questioning on Wednesday, but she failed to do so.
In response to the previous summons, Sengupta had sent a message to the Central agency stating that she was unable to attend the questioning in person due to her commitments outside the country. However, she assured the agency of her full cooperation and offered to appear for interrogation at a later date. According to sources, Sengupta's name came up during the examination of documents related to an accused in the ration distribution case. The ED officials are interested in clarifying her connection to certain transactions that were found during the investigation of the accused.
It is worth mentioning that in 2019, Sengupta was also summoned by the ED in connection with the multi-crore Rose Valley chit fund scam in West Bengal. She was called in for her alleged involvement in some entertainment projects, including films, that were promoted by the Rose Valley Group. It is believed that the films were produced using money that was laundered through the group's marketing schemes, promising investors high returns.
