It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the passing of Dean Sullivan, who portrayed the iconic Jimmy Corkhill in the long-running Channel 4 soap Brookside. He was 68 years old.
Dean's family, who released a statement through Hamilton Management, said that while to the millions who knew him as Jimmy, to them he was 'Dino'. They also thanked Arrowe Park Hospital for their support in his illness.
Dean began his role as Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside in 1986, and would remain with the show until it was controversially cancelled in 2003.
Earlier this year, Dean spoke to The Agency about the news that Brookside would be re-running from the beginning. He said that he was still recognised by the show's loyal fanbase every day, and people often asked him why the show had ended.
He was a huge supporter of Brookside, and often discussed the possibility of the show returning. Dean believed that it would be just as relevant now as it was when it first began in 1982, as many of the issues faced by the characters were still relevant today.
We would like to extend our sympathies to Dean's family and friends during this difficult time. If you have any soap- or TV-related stories, videos, or pictures, please get in touch. Join the community by leaving a comment below and stay updated on all things soaps by visiting our homepage.
