On Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party expressed their disagreement with the Delhi High Court's decision to stay the bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the trial court. They have announced their intention to challenge this ruling in the Supreme Court.
The High Court's order came after the trial court had granted bail to Kejriwal in a case related to the alleged excise policy scam in Delhi. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, who presided over the vacation bench, stated that the trial court had failed to consider the material presented by the Enforcement Directorate and had not properly considered the bail plea of the AAP leader. He also mentioned that the trial court should have given the agency a chance to present their arguments.
In response to this development, the AAP has stated that they will be approaching the Supreme Court. "We disagree with the Delhi High Court's order and will be challenging it in the Supreme Court," the party declared.
The trial court had previously granted bail to Kejriwal on June 20, requiring him to pay a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. However, the ED filed an appeal against this decision in the high court the very next day. They argued that the trial court's ruling was biased and based on irrelevant facts. The excise policy in question was scrapped in 2022 after the Delhi lieutenant governor ordered a CBI investigation into alleged corruption and irregularities in its development and implementation. The CBI and ED have both alleged that the policy was modified in an irregular manner and that the licence holders received undue benefits.
