Over the weekend, in the Bhatli area of Bargarh district, a young man of 30 years was taken into police custody for deceiving a job seeker with false promises of a forest officer position. This incident was reported on Sunday by the local authorities. Upon his arrest, the accused, Gaur Barik, was found to be in possession of a two-wheeler, ATM card, cash amounting to Rs 48,890, a mobile phone, counterfeit Forest department stamps, uniforms, and badges. The culprit hails from Dangarapada village in Bolangir district and goes by the name of Gaur Barik.
As per reports, the victim, Ashish Barik from Sanaamalipali village in Bhatli, was lured by Gaur's promises of securing him a job as a forest officer. Ashish fell for the trap and handed over a sum of Rs 48,890 to Gaur as directed. Along with the cash, Gaur also presented Ashish with a uniform and a fake appointment letter from the Forest department. However, when Ashish realized that he had been swindled, he promptly registered a written complaint at the Bhatli police station. Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and filed a case against Gaur.
Following the legal proceedings, Gaur was arrested and presented in the Bargarh court on Saturday. The investigation further uncovered Gaur's history of fraudulent activities. In the past, he had committed a similar crime in the Bargarh Sadar police station area. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for job seekers to be wary of false promises and to verify any job offers before taking any action. The authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities to prevent others from falling victim to such scams.
