A woman from central Queensland has been charged by the police with five counts of attempted murder after she intentionally crashed the 4WD she was driving. The incident took place on June 26, as she was travelling along the Kennedy Highway near Atherton in the Tablelands. Inside the car were four children ranging from three months to nine years old, as well as a 43-year-old man.
According to the police, the woman purposely drove off the road and collided with a sign, causing the vehicle to flip. Shockingly, one of the children was apparently sitting in the boot of the car without a proper restraint at the time. Fortunately, no one was harmed in the crash and the group left the scene.
The abandoned 4WD was later discovered by a member of the public on the side of the road. The next day, police were alerted to the woman's home where she allegedly assaulted two of the children - a 3-month-old baby girl and a 2-year-old girl. Both of the girls sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Cairns Hospital for medical treatment.
The woman has since been charged with multiple domestic offences, including five counts of attempted murder and one count of assault causing bodily harm while armed. She is set to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 4. It's important to note that if you or someone you know is a victim of domestic and family violence, it's crucial to report it to the police. There are also various support and counselling services available for those in need.
Organizations like DVConnect Womensline, DVConnect Mensline, 1800 RESPECT, and 13YARN are dedicated to providing support and assistance to those affected by domestic violence. It's essential to reach out for help and know that you are not alone in this situation. Together, we can work towards putting an end to domestic and family violence.
