A tribute to the classic RPG that captured imaginations around the world: Fallout: New Vegas.
Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best video games ever made, and I can definitely explain why. I first encountered it a couple of years ago, when I stumbled upon a copy for Xbox 360 on eBay; for only £5, I could barely believe my luck. I quickly booted it up and what I saw was not quite the pristine experience I had expected. The gunplay was janky, and it was obvious this game was starting to show its age.

But, despite this, I was absolutely hooked. I had heard many good things about the game, and I could immediately see why. What made it so special was its ability to keep the player engaged at all times. Even for a contemporary player, the game was incredibly enjoyable.

What's more, it offered an immense number of ways to play. I was able to take the Widowmaker perk and find a unique solution to a quest, rather than resorting to the typical shooting gallery approach. It was nice to have a bit of variety.

The story was also beautifully crafted, with multiple narratives intertwining to create a compelling and immersive world. Although the world was not ‘reactively’ changing, it certainly gave a convincing portrayal of events and the consequences of the player’s actions. This was helped along by the fact that the two main factions, the NCR and Caesar’s Legion, were both morally dubious.

The game also gave an interesting take on the human condition, with its nihilistic view on the concepts of good and bad. It was interesting to see the consequences of different approaches, and the ability to play through the game without siding with either faction was a great feature.

The DLCs were also great; Dead Money had a Saw-like feel, Honest Hearts was full of restless energy, and Lonesome Road was full of Ulysses’ grizzly narration. All of this added to the already well-established world, and gave players the chance to experience something new.

So, if you haven’t given it a try yet, I would highly recommend it – it’s certainly worth it. I hope to see you in the wasteland, courier.
