Madikeri; A tourist has died under mysterious circumstances in a homestay on Sunday night. The deceased identified as Vighneshwari (24), is a native of Toranagallu in Ballari district and working as a techie in a private company in Mumbai.
It is said that the five techies booked a room in a homestay near Madikeri and checked in on Saturday. While having a bath on Sunday night, Vighneshwari did not come out for a long time. The workers broke open the door of the bathroom, found her in an unconscious state. Immediately she was rushed to a hospital but she succumbed before admitting to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the LPG gas geyser was used for hot water without ventilation caused asphyxiation. Town police registered a case against the homestay owner for negligence. The district homestay association president BG Ananthashayana urged authorities to close unauthorized home stays in the district. He said that the homestay owner is staying abroad and renting it to a person. He said hundreds of homestays running without registration and permission in the district by flouting norms, causing a breach of safety and security also.
