A swan wandering on a busy road causes a chaotic situation similar to Hot Fuzz.
As a police officer, it's not uncommon to come across unexpected situations while on duty. But, on a seemingly normal day, one of our officers found themselves in a situation straight out of a movie.

Responding to a call about a lost swan, our officers were met with a scene straight out of the film Hot Fuzz. This iconic moment was brought to life as our officers had to chase the swan, who had found itself on a busy dual carriageway in Devizes, Wilts.

Thankfully, our team was able to safely block traffic and protect the bird. The swan, just a cygnet, was then taken into town in the back of our trusty police van. After being released into the water, the swan was able to regain its strength and is now doing well.

Our officers were relieved to see the happy ending to this rescue mission. The spokesperson for our force shared, "Our proactive Roads Policing Unit thankfully came across this cygnet sitting on the southbound carriageway of the A361. Devizes Neighbourhood Team attended with a van and the swan was very deftly handled by the RPU sergeant, placed in the van, and released on The Crammer."

This isn't the first time our officers have been sent on a wild goose chase, or in this case, a wild swan chase. In Hertfordshire, slippery surfaces caused by a swan led to a similar situation on a busy A-road. And in Glasgow, a brave swan stood up to traffic, showing no fear.

We're just glad that in all of these cases, our officers were able to safely handle the situation and ensure the well-being of the birds. It's not always the most glamorous part of the job, but we're always happy to help, even if it means chasing after a lost swan.
