Madikeri, Feb. 13: Chief Minister's Legal Advisor and MLA A.S. Ponnanna launched various development works worth Rs 3 crore in Madenadu Gram Panchayat.
He performed the ground breaking ceremony for the work on Kaspadi Road near Katakeri, Bhagavathy Temple Road, inaugurated the Appendriyappa Temple Road, inaugurated the Katakeri Golikate Main Road, Madenadu Byrettira Junction Road and Madenadu Matha Mane Road, then inspected the Golikate Government School, inaugurated the Kolpe Daivasthan Road. Similarly, he performed the ground breaking ceremony for Deshkodi and Salapu Roads. Then he inaugurated the Kolcharu Road and inaugurated the Kemmaran Shiraj Road. Later, he visited the Neriyana Ainmane, and also inaugurated the Eshwarappa Madurappa Road. Jodupala performed the ground-breaking ceremony of Kirikil Road and inaugurated the Abbikolli Road. He held a grievance meeting in Kudiyar Colony. He inaugurated the Katakeri Kurana Bane Road, Talattamane, and Mangalore-Bhagamadala Link Road. In the last two and a half years, various development works have been undertaken in the Virajpet assembly constituency. About 2,500 km. Road development has been initiated. Under the Chief Minister's Road Development Scheme, the government has provided Rs 50 crore, along with an additional Rs 30 crore, for various development works including construction of roads, bridges and retaining walls. Kodagu district is yet to receive funds under the Jaljeevan Mission Scheme. Rs 58 crore is being allocated for the drinking water project, he said.
Responding to the Jamma Bane issue, the MLAs said that efforts have been made to resolve the land issue of the leaseholders. The two previous MLAs also said that they had made their own efforts to resolve the Jamma Bane land issue.
Responding to the state budget, the MLAs said that in the last budget, it was proposed to develop Virajpet Hospital on the model of a district hospital. It was announced to upgrade Gonikoppa Government Hospital to a 50-bed hospital and Hudikeri Hospital to a community hospital, according to which the Health and Family Welfare Minister will inspect the site and the work will be started soon.
Steps have been taken to strengthen electricity in Kodagu district. To prevent elephant-human conflict, a 22 km long trench/fence construction has been initiated, he said.
The projects announced for Kodagu district in the last budget are being initiated. These should be completed. There is a possibility that Kodagu district will get special priority in the next budget.
Around Rs 50 crore is being spent on the construction of a barrier and cleanliness in the low-lying areas of the Cauvery riverbed. Similarly, Rs 20 crore is being spent on relocating families living on the banks of the Lakshmana Theertha river to a safer place and rehabilitating them, the MLA informed.
