A photographic journey through Scotland by James Alroca.
James Alroca has always been captivated by vibrant, attention-grabbing colors, so it's no surprise that Scotland's stunning landscape serves as his ultimate muse.

His story begins in Strasbourg, France, where he was born to an English mother and a French father. His early years were spent in France until the age of ten when his family relocated to Brussels, Belgium, and then to England. But it was in Scotland where James found his true home, living semi-permanently in his trusty van.

His love for photography blossomed during his time at Bangor University in North Wales. Photography not only got him outside, but it also fueled his desire to chase the ever-changing weather and share the beauty of nature with the world. During his university years, he struggled with anxiety, but his passion for photography and the sense of purpose it gave him helped him overcome any difficulties. He strongly believes that having a passion, whether it be photography, hiking, or painting, can greatly benefit one's mental health by keeping the mind occupied.

One of the things that James finds most inspiring about the Scottish landscape is its vast array of colors. From the striking reds, oranges, and purples of autumn to the crisp whites of winter and the vibrant greens of summer, the ever-changing seasons bring a kaleidoscope of hues to the landscape. For example, a trip to the Cairngorms will reveal a sea of greens, purples, and oranges in the foliage, while the beaches in the north boast turquoise seas and powdery white sand. The constantly shifting weather also plays a significant role in the colors of the landscape, making each photography session in Scotland an exciting and unpredictable adventure.

There are countless enchanting locations in Scotland that James loves to capture through his lens. From Torridon and the Cairngorms to the Hebrides, the Isle of Skye, Glencoe, and the beaches up north, each place offers its own unique charm. However, if he had to choose his favorite experience so far, it would have to be his visit to the Isle of Lewis and Harris. The beaches there left him utterly awe-struck, and the desolate landscape was unlike anything he had ever seen before.

For James, colors are one of the most important aspects of his work. He has always been drawn to colors, even from a young age. He fondly recalls wearing turquoise chinos and a bright orange jumper to school on non-uniform day, thinking he was the coolest kid around. His love for colors was also influenced by video games, particularly the vibrant hues used in games like Yu-gi-oh and Pokemon. As he grew older, he developed a fascination with the artworks in these games, which inspired him to incorporate bold and eye-catching colors in his own work. This is why autumn is one of his favorite seasons, as the colors are simply breathtaking.
