Alphonzo "Phonz" Terrell and DeVaris Brown have recently launched a new social platform, called Spill, that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology to combat hatred and abuse towards minority groups, such as the Black community. The app was added to Apple's App Store recently, according to AfroTech.
In an interview, Terrell said their goal is to create a platform from the ground up that caters to those groups and solves the core problems they are facing. To achieve this, they use AI and blockchain technology to detect any unwelcome activity on the platform. Terrell added that it's important for different perspectives to build these platforms now, as it's a misconception that these technologies are objective. It's important to note that according to Terrell, Black women face the most hate online.
Spill also serves as a safe haven for LGBTQ+ users, as it recognizes that they are often not credited for starting trends and viral moments online. To address this, the platform aims to pay users for their viral moments, although Terrell has noted that this may not be an easy task.
BLACK ENTERPRISE previously covered the launch of Spill and its primary focus on providing a safe space for Black Twitter users. Currently, the app is accessible by invite only.
