Mumbai police have arrested a 28-year-old man for creating a fake Facebook account of a woman and sending obscene messages to people. The accused, Prince Kumar Bharti, hails from Bihar and works in Andhra Pradesh. He had come to Mumbai in 2022 and had proposed marriage to the 21-year-old woman, only to be rejected.
According to police, the accused had initially identified himself as Prince Goswami and had talked to the woman on Facebook and WhatsApp. When the woman broke off contact, Bharti allegedly created three social media accounts in her name, sending friend requests to people known to him.
When some people accepted the request, they were surprised to see her morphed pictures in the photo gallery. The woman was alerted and subsequently contacted the police. Bharti has now been arrested from Andhra Pradesh.
This arrest comes just days after a tragic accident at Dadar railway station in Mumbai, in which a man was run over and killed by a BMC garbage truck. The incident has sparked demands for improved safety measures at the station.
