NBC News reported that former Georgia police officer, Miles Bryant, has been charged with felony murder and kidnapping related to the death of 16-year-old Susana Morales. Law enforcement declared on Wednesday that a firearm that he had registered missing was discovered close to her skeletal remains.

The 22-year-old former police officer was at first charged with covering up a death and falsely reporting an offense regarding the vanishing of the 16-year-old victim. The skeletal remains of Morales were uncovered on Feb. 6.

The Gwinnett Police Department revealed in a press release that Morales encountered Bryant while she was walking home from a friend’s place on July 26, 2022. As indicated by Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure, she ran into the previous police officer some time between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Police detectives hypothesize that Morales was killed between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.

The inquiry proceeds as it appears that Bryant and Morales did not know each other or take part in any earlier relationship. The exact cause of death has not been decided and is still under investigation.

Police officials revealed that they suspected Bryant after they located "a significant piece of proof," the handgun, "in close proximity" to where the remains of Morales were found. Her body was spotted close to the woods close to Highway 316 between Drowning Creek and the Barrow County line.

Bryant had reported his personal gun missing on the morning of July 27, which quickly made him a person of interest.

Morales was last seen on July 26 prior to being reported missing the following morning by her family.

McClure said that she may have potentially been raped.

“We don’t definitively know” how she was killed. “We’re still investigating. What we do know is she died at the hands of Miles Bryant.” #
