A gruesome discovery was made earlier this week in a flooded pump house owned by US Steel in Joliet, Illinois. It was around 6:47pm on a Tuesday when police and fire crews were called to the property at 941 Collins Street. The call came from a group of four individuals, three men and a woman, who stumbled upon a decomposed body while exploring the site.
As they entered the flooded pump house, officers were met with a grim scene. A dead man was found in about four to five feet of water. The body was in such an advanced state of decomposition that police were unable to immediately identify the individual or determine the cause of death. The Will County Coroner's Office will be conducting further investigations to provide these answers.
A representative from US Steel confirmed that the location is an old property that has been closed for some time now. It is unclear at this point how the body ended up in the pump house or how long it had been there. The Joliet Fire Department was responsible for recovering the body from the flooded area.
