In the upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, viewers will be on the edge of their seats as the despicable Tom King finally faces justice for his abusive treatment of his wife, Belle Dingle. Despite being arrested for secretly spying on Belle with hidden cameras and having evidence found on his tablet, Tom still tries to manipulate his way out of the situation by blackmailing his solicitor, Ollie, for help.
According to James Chase, who plays Tom's character, he remains confident and in control until the very end. "He's still holding onto a bit of hope that he can do something about it," James revealed. Tom's big plan is to stage a fake suicide attempt, just like he did in the past when he was able to manipulate Belle at their cottage in Wales.
But things don't go as planned for Tom. After his fake attempt, he is assessed by medical staff and declared fit to stand trial. This is a shock to Tom, who had assumed he would be able to avoid facing the consequences of his actions. "I think this is one of those reality-checking moments for Tom where he's like, 'Okay, so this trial is actually going to go ahead,'" James shared. "I think he probably had plans A, B, C, and all the way through to Z for what he would do if they bought his mental instability, so being declared fit for trial has definitely thrown a spanner in the works for him."
For James, having Tom finally face his crimes in court is the most satisfying way for the story to end. "I think the way it's going to wrap up is going to be very satisfying for people to see," he promised. "Ending it in a court was cool - ending it in a big venue, a place I've never been in real life. I think it helped me feel like Tom to be somewhere so grandiose."
But the journey to this point won't be easy. According to James, the ending won't be "cut and dry" as there will be unexpected twists and turns along the way. "It's an interesting way of going about it," he added.
So, will the jury find Tom guilty of his crimes? This question and many more will be answered in the upcoming episodes of Emmerdale.
