A CGST & Central Excise official in Odisha has been arrested by CBI for accepting a bribe.
In a recent case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Manoj Kumar Subudhi, the Superintendent of Central GST & Central Excise in Berhampur. The reason for his arrest is an alleged bribe of Rs. 15,000 that he accepted from a complainant in exchange for expediting his GST refund.

According to CBI sources, the case against Subudhi was filed on July 9 after receiving a complaint about his actions. The complainant claimed that Subudhi had previously processed a GST refund of Rs. 1.77 lakh for him and promised to smoothly process another refund of around Rs. 3 lakh, but only if he received a bribe of Rs. 20,000.

In order to catch Subudhi in the act, the CBI set up a trap and arrested him from the Office of Assistant Commissioner of Central GST & Central Excise in Berhampur. He was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of the bribe, which was Rs. 15,000. The CBI also conducted searches at Subudhi's residential and official premises in Berhampur and Bhubaneswar, where they found incriminating documents.

Subudhi will be presented before the Court of Special Judge for CBI cases in Bhubaneswar today. It is a shame that a person in such a position of authority would resort to corrupt practices for personal gain. The CBI's swift action in this matter is commendable and sends a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated in our society.
