A young man from Louisiana had a terrifying experience when he was pushed into a lake by his friends and left underwater for almost 10 minutes. The incident left him hospitalized for over two weeks, but thankfully, he has now been taken off life support and is expected to be released soon.
According to reports from WSFA, 26-year-old Christopher Gilbert's survival is being hailed as a miracle by doctors. His family is overjoyed that he has been taken off life support and is making progress towards recovery. It all started when he and his friends were hanging out at a lakefront restaurant and somehow, he ended up in the lake. Sadly, the ordeal caused severe brain damage and he had to be put on life support.
Claudia Payne, the attorney representing Gilbert's family, revealed that initially, his friends had told the police that he had fallen into the lake. However, further investigation uncovered the truth that he was actually pushed into the water by one of the girls in the group. Despite this revelation, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to KSLA, a bystander at the scene, along with the police, performed CPR on Gilbert until medical personnel arrived. He was pulled out of the lake, which was about 15 feet deep, and taken to a nearby hospital. He is currently being treated at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport.
Gilbert's mother, Yolanda George, shared that although her son is not out of the woods yet, he has shown significant progress in his recovery. Meanwhile, community activist Terrance Winn has been advocating for justice for Gilbert and demanding answers about the events that led to his near-drowning.
Winn emphasized the importance of seeking justice for a young Black man and not letting race be a factor in the situation. He expressed his disappointment that in the year 2024, we are still having to fight for justice instead of uniting as a community. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly and receive the same justice, regardless of their race.
