Hannah Pearson is an inspiring example of determination and hard work. At 17 years old, this young college student from Robeson County, North Carolina is well on her way to becoming a licensed teacher before her 19th birthday. After graduating high school early, she earned an impressive 60 college credits through North Carolina's Career and College Promise Program and graduated from Robeson Community College with an associate of arts. She is now majoring in Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke.
Her mother, Miranda McNair, has been a teacher at Fairmont High School for 28 years and could not be prouder of her daughter’s accomplishments. “She is self-driven. Even into foreign languages. She [says], oh, I want to learn a new language, so she’ll learn Korean, learn Spanish, and learn Portuguese,” Miranda said.
Hannah's drive and ambition has even inspired her father, Brian McNair, to go back to school himself. He has just earned his bachelor’s degree from UNC Pembroke. “I can’t tell her to do something, to go after something that I haven’t achieved myself… so I got back into school at UNC Pembroke,” he said.
In an interview with WRAL, Hannah said, “I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. It doesn’t matter how well the next person does it. The only thing that matters is you and your drive.” Her father echoed this sentiment, adding, “God has given her a platform to show other kids that this is achievable.”
Hannah Pearson is a shining example of what is possible when dedication and hard work combine. Her inspiring story of success is one that will hopefully encourage other students to pursue their dreams and not be discouraged by the obstacles they may face.
