9yo saves classmate's life with Heimlich maneuver.
On June 19th, 2023, a nine-year-old boy, Jace Wiggins, demonstrated incredible bravery and quick-thinking when he used the Heimlich maneuver to save a classmate at the Leith Walk Elementary School's end-of-the-year class party. According to WMAR, the fourth-grade student had learned the life-saving technique from his mother, Charlie Gilliam, who is a certified instructor and had taught him CPR at seven years old.

When asked about the incident, Wiggins recounted the story to WMAR, saying, "We were just having fun in the music room listening to music. She went to go have a drink of water, and the next minute she was chewing on a cap and drinking water, and it must have went down." After several attempts, he eventually saved the girl's life. He also added, "When she was gasping for air, and she was trying to get out what she was saying, she was trying to say help, but we couldn't understand it, but I kind of heard it."

In recognition of his heroic efforts, the school has invited Wiggins to join his mother when she teaches young children how to perform CPR and use AED this summer. This noble act of selflessness and courage is reminiscent of Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin, who recently embarked on a multi-city tour titled the Chasing M's Foundation CPR Tour. The tour first kicked off at Highmark Stadium, and Hamlin's mission is to help teach people how to perform CPR techniques, the same technique that helped save his life during a Monday Night Football game in January 2023.

We commend this young scholar for taking the initiative and jumping in at the right time to help save another child's life. His story serves as a powerful reminder to us all that we can make a positive difference in the lives of those around us.
