95% of Indore's power cut due to unexpected rain.
Indore was left in darkness on Sunday evening as strong gusts of wind and unseasonal rain hit the city, leaving its residents with a sleepless night.

The Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company issued a press release stating that due to the furious rains, 495 out of 525 feeders of 11 KV line were cut off from power supply. The report further indicated that 14 of those feeders had been damaged due to tree branches while a variety of technical issues were responsible for power failure in the other feeders.

Electricity staff worked throughout the night in an attempt to restore power supply in all parts of the city. Unfortunately for the residents, the rains revealed how ill-prepared the West Discom was to deal with sudden changes in weather conditions.

People were left with no other option but to call the helpline number of the West Discom in order to register their complaints. Unfortunately, the supply could not be restored to many pockets for several hours and in some cases, not until Monday morning.

Despite the challenging conditions, West Discom managed to resolve more than 1300 individual complaints, with higher officials such as the managing director Amit Tomar taking hourly updates. This enabled them to restore power in the city in an efficient manner.
