Nine-year-old Ronan Wilson was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday night in Co Donegal, Northern Ireland. He was a beloved schoolboy, son, and brother who was loved by his family and community.
Ronan's dad, Dean, spoke out about the heartbreaking event and said his family will never be the same without Ronan. He said, “I never thought I’d be saying this but I’ve lost my wee Roro; my main man, my hero and son. I love him so much, he’s been taken from us by a hit-and-run driver. We will never be the same without you, we can’t cope. I’m broken.”
Ronan was a popular member of his community, and was a part of the Kildress Wolfe Tones U10 football team. His brother and sister also played on the same team. Club chairman Dominic McGurk described the community's shock and devastation, saying, “People are just numb and are in complete shock at the news. We are a tight-knit community here...and we will come together and we will support the family.”

The seaside town of Bundoran was in a state of shock and grief as well. Sinn Fein councillor Michael McMahon described it as “the darkest day” in the town, saying, “It is the saddest day I can remember in Bundoran in a very long time. There is a sense of grief hanging over the town. People are just stunned.” Marie Downey, a local resident, expressed her grief saying, “I can’t begin to imagine what the family is going through. It’s heartbreaking.”
Gardaí have arrested a man in his twenties in connection with Ronan’s death and have seized a vehicle. The incident happened just after 9.20pm on Saturday. Gardaí are asking any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, and who were travelling in the area of Atlantic Way, Bundoran, yesterday evening between 8.45pm and 9.45pm, to make this footage available to Gardaí.
