75,000 eco-friendly Ganesh idols ready in Bhopal for the festival season.
The people of Bhopal are eagerly awaiting the 10-day Ganeshotsava, which will begin on September 19. About 75,000 idols of Lord Ganesha, many of which are replicates of the famed idols from Mumbai like Lalbagh ke Raja and Dagadu Sheth Halwaiwale, have been crafted by 500 local idol makers. These artists have been hard at work for the past six months.

Ajay Prajapati, an experienced idol maker of 35 years from Itwara, said they had to start early around Holi due to the heavy rains. He also reported that 90% of his customers have booked their idols a year in advance, making it difficult to fulfill last minute orders.

Devendra Prajapati, another idol maker, reported that the majority of the idols are eco-friendly and constructed using clay from Bhopal, Kolkata, and Kanpur. The height of these idols, including the pedestal, ranges from 5 to 10 feet, with each one taking about a month to complete.

Rahul Kushwaha also made about 30 idols ranging from 4 to 12 feet high.

As the city looks forward to the festivities, it is hoped that these idols bring joy and happiness to all.
