Kelan Logan-Derench, a five-year-old boy from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, tragically passed away in Egypt on Saturday. He had been on holiday with his family, which included his mum, older sister, and grandmother.
Kelan was a pupil at New Hall Primary School and was described as a "cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy" by a family friend. He was due to become a big brother in February next year.
Serena Whitehead, who is close to Kelan's mum Ciara, has set up a fundraiser to bring him home and give him "the funeral he deserves". So far, over £12,500 has been raised in his honour. Serena said on the fundraising page, "Kelan's whole family are absolutely broken and we can only imagine the pain they are going through, the least we can do as friends of the family and as a community is to help them by offering some financial support so that they can bring Kelan home and give him the funeral he deserves."
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been asked for comment. This tragedy is sure to have a profound effect on everyone who knew Kelan. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this difficult time.
