5 Black women entrepreneurs in Minneapolis were surprised with billboard ads honoring their businesses.
Black women-owned businesses are finally getting the recognition they deserve. To celebrate Black Business Month, Sheletta Brundidge, founder of ShelettaMakesMeLaugh.com, surprised five Black women entrepreneurs with an amazing gift: billboard advertisements in downtown Minneapolis!

The media personality invested $15,000 through her production company to advertise the businesses for two weeks. Through this, Brundidge hopes to highlight the struggles that Black women have historically faced when trying to receive venture capital and show others that they are worth investing in.

“It is important for me to be able to invest in Black-owned and family-run businesses — to leverage my network to them and provide an opportunity that they might not otherwise be afforded,” Brundidge said.

The billboards featured Sylvia Williams and Liza Maya, founders of Soul Grain Granola; Rosline Friedrich, founder of Rosline’s Candles; Tameka Jones and her Lip Esteem cosmetic brand team; De’Vonna Pittman, founder of Hair and skin care product company Nature’s Syrup; and Chaz Sandifer-Lakeview of Lakeview Terrace Farmer’s Market. Brundidge also included a rotating ad for her own company.

The billboards were placed in a strategic location, across from US Bank Stadium, to ensure maximum exposure for the businesses. She hopes that these advertisements will translate into people searching, supporting, and investing in Black-owned businesses.

“I’m so glad that so many people are here looking at these billboards, but I need them to translate into searching, into supporting, also investing,” she said.

It’s inspiring to see such amazing people come together to help promote Black businesses and inspire others to do the same. We have to show each other that we are worth the investment, and that we won’t be forgotten.
