4 people were arrested after a virtual casino was shut down.
Bhubaneswar: A group of cyber investigators have uncovered an illegal online gambling operation that was taking place in a rented flat in the Sundarpada area. Four individuals, believed to be part of a larger syndicate operating across India, were apprehended in connection with the operation. Assistant Commissioner of Police Anjana Tudu revealed that two of the suspects were from Delhi, while the other two were from Hyderabad and Gujarat.

According to Tudu, the four suspects are currently being interrogated by authorities. During a search of the flat, which was located on the sixth floor of Presitge Apartments, the investigators seized two PCs, one laptop, 20 smartphones, three passports, Wi-fi and router equipment, CCTV devices, and Rs 18,700 in cash. The raid was conducted early in the morning after receiving a tip-off, catching the suspects off guard.

Tudu stated that the suspects were unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the gadgets found in the flat, leading to their detainment and subsequent questioning at the Cyber police station. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the group had created a fake version of a Chinese betting application called WINBUZZ365, which they used to entice unsuspecting individuals into investing large sums of money with the promise of high returns.

The group's modus operandi involved asking potential investors to join WhatsApp and Telegram groups created by them, where they would share fake screenshots of individuals receiving huge interest on their investments. Once they had received significant investments, the fraudsters would block the investors' numbers and remove them from the groups, leaving them with no way to contact or track them.

A senior police officer involved in the probe explained that the group had set up a trap to lure in their victims and then disappear with their money. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to track down other members of the syndicate and bring them to justice. This bust serves as a reminder for everyone to be cautious when investing money online and to verify the legitimacy of any schemes or applications before participating.
