The town of Uttarkashi was hit with tragedy as the bodies of four trekkers from Bengaluru were found on Thursday. These individuals had tragically lost their lives during a trek to Sahastra Tal. According to officials, this marks the completion of the retrieval of all nine victims. The local SDM, Brijesh Kumar Tiwari, reported that thirteen trekkers had been successfully rescued and the rescue operation, aided by Indian Air Force helicopters, has now ended.

The previous day, the bodies of five individuals, including a 71-year-old woman, were also recovered. These individuals were part of the same trekking group. It was revealed that the 22-member team from Bengaluru had set out on a challenging 35-kilometer trek from Uttarkashi on May 29. This trip was organized by the Himalayan View Trekking Agency in Maneri.

SDM Tiwari further informed that the four bodies found on Thursday were transported to Bhatwari. They were identified as Venkatesh Prasad, Padmanadha Kundapur Krishnamurthy, Anita Rangappa, and Padmini Hegde. The previous day's victims were identified as Sindhu Vakekalam, Asha Sudhakar, Sujatha Mungurwadi, Vinayak Mungurwadi, and Chitra Praneeth.

According to SDM Tiwari, the trekking team was supposed to return by June 7. However, due to bad weather conditions, they lost their way as they approached Sahastra Tal from the last base camp. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht had previously stated that the trekking agency had discovered that four members of the team had passed away and the rest were stranded. Upon receiving this information, land and aerial rescue operations were immediately launched to search for the trekkers.

The Indian Air Force was also involved in the rescue mission, helping to locate the stranded trekkers and retrieve the bodies of those who had lost their lives. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had instructed officials to take necessary action in ensuring the safe rescue of the trekkers and to bring the deceased back to their home state as soon as possible. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in such expeditions and the importance of proper safety measures. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate event.
