Madikeri, Jul. 8: MP Yaduveer Wodeyar distributed devices to the differently-abled people under the ‘Socially Oriented Civil’ scheme by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Disabled People.
Speaking after distributing devices to the differently-abled people at the Red Cross Bhavan in the city, the MP said that 344 devices worth Rs 20 lakh will be distributed to 201 differently-abled people in the district.
The differently-abled people have also contributed a lot to the development of the country and the government is providing many facilities to the differently-abled people to live like others, the MP said. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s developed India, comprehensive and complete development needs to take place. Everyone’s role is important in that regard. Everyone’s contribution is necessary for building a new India, he said.
Former Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah said that the central government has implemented many schemes for the differently-abled. In that regard, he said that many programs have been implemented to lead a self-respecting and self-reliant life.
He said that with the vision of becoming a developed India by 2047, efforts are being made to identify the most vulnerable in society and deliver many programs to all the common people, including the differently-abled.The differently-abled should be able to live as productive members of society. They should be able to live like everyone else by taking government facilities, said K.G. Bopaiah.
Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department, Tippanna Sirasagi, said that disability is not a curse. But it should be overcome. They should be able to take up self-employment by taking government facilities. They should be able to lead a self-reliant life. Red Cross Society Chairman Ravindra Rai said that many facilities are provided to the differently-abled members of the Red Cross Society. He said that currently 25 people have been distributed raincoats.
The Red Cross Bhavan has been constructed with the cooperation of the government, and the MPs were requested to provide necessary cooperation for the construction of the upper part of the building. District Disabled Persons Officer Vimala spoke and informed that aids and equipment are being provided to the specially-abled in the district, and due to the rain, aids and equipment are being distributed at the respective taluk level.
