On Tuesday, the first day of reporting after seat allotment in the largest government medical college of the state – MGM Medical College – 31 students reported to the college. This followed the first round of state quota counselling of NEET-UG 2023, which ran from July 26 to August 4 and saw the choice filling process end on August 4.
The college had an intake capacity of 250 MBBS seats, of which 209 had been allotted to candidates based on their state rank in NEET-UG. The college authorities have stated that the reporting of students will continue till August 14.
The counselling of all India PG quota seats also began on Tuesday, and the college authorities reported that they had already prepared for the reporting of students. The documents had been thoroughly scrutinised and the admission process was underway.
The first counselling of UG all India quota seats saw only half of the available seats filled. Out of 37 seats, only 18 candidates had enrolled in the first round of counselling, which concluded on August 4. The remaining seats will be available for the second and third counselling, which will occur in the last week of August.
Across the 14 government medical colleges in the state, there are around 2,300 MBBS seats with 339 reserved for all India quota. With the reporting of students having already begun, the medical college is expecting more students to join in the coming days.
