New coronavirus cases in LA County more than doubled in 24 hours

Los Angeles County public health officials reported 6,509 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 1,576,702, as of Wednesday, Dec. 22. The total number of cases represents 15.4% of Los Angeles County’s population.

Officials reported 16 more deaths linked to the coronavirus since, for a total of 27,488 deaths since tracking began. The total number of deaths represents 0.27% of Los Angeles County’s population.

There were eight new hospitalizations reported since Tuesday, keeping the total count of people hospitalized with coronavirus to 748.

According to the California Department of Public Health’s vaccines dashboard, 70% of Los Angeles County is fully vaccinated and more than 16,297,642 vaccine doses have been administered as of Dec. 22.
